Hi, I’m Peter, the Head Roaster here at Longroad Coffee Company. I want to share the stories behind the coffee we make, and you drink.
Longroad Coffee Company started in San Antonio, TX in 2016, as a hobby to roast coffees for myself and friends. I quickly discovered that we were doing a fairly decent job at it, and I couldn’t keep up with the requests by friends and family. We quickly jumped into a small commercial coffee roaster. Through self-directed learning and training, I found that I had learned so much about the coffee roasting process and it sparked a desire to have others share in this experience. It was out of this insight that Longroad Coffee Company truly was born.
Many people drink their morning cup of coffee and don’t think twice about how the coffee came to be in their cup. The coffee process starts ultimately at the coffee farm with the farmers, who work very hard to grow high-quality coffees. Mature, coffee trees take years to grow, cultivate, and develop. We strive to provide you with coffees that are traceable, ethically sourced, responsibly imported, and lastly, expertly roasted.
The first step in a good cup of coffee is the source. We strive hard to work with importers of coffee to find coffees that fit our goals and standards. We only use coffees that can be traced back to a specific farm or co-op. This practice ensures that each farmer or group of farmers receives fair compensation for their product, and that the coffee we roast will provide a tool for community growth and support. We only select specialty coffees (top 5% of coffees in the world) to ensure that you enjoy every sip of our coffee.
We rely on reputable coffee importers that align with our goals and standards, although we would love to provide a farmer to roaster experience. We have fostered a few direct relationships with coffee farms, which have been fruitful. We certainly hope to expand in this area in the future. With that being said, we trust our importers to uphold the highest standards, select the highest quality coffees and provide fair market compensation to farmers and co-ops.
The roasting of the coffee is a very unique and subjective process, made by each individual roaster. While anyone can
source and import great coffees, the last step ultimately falls in the hands of the roaster. At Longroad Coffee, we take great care in roasting coffees to unlock the intrinsic flavors of each coffee bean. This process involves a combination of the quality of the coffee, the geographical location it was sourced from, the types of soil it was grown in, the elevation of coffee trees, the processing method, and finally the actual roasting of the coffee to extract those flavors.
